LIFE should be a lot easier for the Bermagui Surf Lifesaving Club volunteers now that the lower level of the new surf club is complete.
And in more good news the contract for the completion of the upper level should be signed in the next few days.
Club captain Rob Shaw said having a building was a “massive” improvement for the club because before the club’s boards, rubber ducks, surf boats and gear was spread around town in the volunteers’ backyards and garages.
“Having all the gear in one place, safely locked up will make a huge difference,” he said.
“Having a clubhouse means we are 100 per cent better off.”
The toilets in the club are also finished but the new upper level will also feature showers and change rooms which should further improve conditions for the volunteers.
The club was the recipient of a grant worth just over $1 million from the Federal Government earlier this year and the club was just about to sign the contract with the builder to complete the upper level. The same builder who completed the lower level is doing the upper level.
The upper level should be complete by the end of next year.
The club has already started patrol season but was always looking for new members with bronze medallion training already underway.
Bermagui Surf Lifesaving Club is also entering a mixed team in this year’s George Bass surfboat marathon with the rowers training several times a year.
