Calls for more bus services to Bermagui

14 Oct, 2009 10:10 AM
BERMAGUI residents are calling for help to get improved bus service to their town.

A petition was recently circulated and five residents got together last week to send off the 18 sheets of signatures to Federal Member Mike Kelly and State Member Andrew Constance.

“We are seeking Federal and State Government support for the extension of existing bus services between Narooma and Bairnsdale (Melbourne) and between Narooma and Canberra to include Bermagui,” Jack Miller said.

Only the Eden/Sydney/Eden Premier Motor Service bus stops at Bermagui at present.

But the residents were hopeful that either the Murrays bus service that travelled between Canberra and Narooma or the V-Line service to Bairnsdale and Victoria could be attracted to Bermagui.

Mr Miller said there were more than 400 signatures on the petition.

The residents believed greater public transport service was vital for both tourism and locals who wanted and needed to travel to the big cities.
