Coila Centenary: Presbyterian

03 Nov, 2004 09:39 AM
Local Presbyterian congregations had a rather old-fashioned church picnic last month.

Members from the Moruya, Tuross Head and Narooma Congregations met at the old Coila Church building on Saturday, October 23.

Owners of the building, Jan and Frank Kovacs, belong to the Narooma congregation and offered the historic church and grounds to celebrate the 100 years, since the church was built.

It was a great excuse for a get-together with many people taking the opportunity to come in turn of the Century clothes.

Children present, as well as many adults, enjoyed the cart rides provided by Reg Green and his Clydesdales.

Those of Sunday School age also engaged in sack races, egg and spoon races and an old fashioned egg toss.

Reverend David Hassan thanked the Kovacs for their hospitality on behalf of the many who visited the Coila site that day.

Rev. Hassan also gave a brief historical overview of the building and congregation, then prayed to thank God for his faithfulness in times past.

This short session in the Church was concluded with a hearty rendition of the hymn Glory be to God the Father sung by all to the foot pedalled organ played by David Mc-Dougall.
