THE Kohlmeyer name is well known around Narooma and on Australia Day former resident and Narooma High School student Gregory Kohlmeyer was awarded with a Conspicuous Service Medal (CSM).
Lieutenant Colonel Gregory Kohlmeyer was awarded the CSM for meritorious achievement as the Senior Instructor - Ordnance and Staff Officer Grade One Development at the Army Logistic Training Centre in Albury/Wadonga.
Gregory Kohlmeyer, aged 38 attended Narooma High School and in 1985 he was school captain. He also did karate at the Narooma Surf shed and became a black belt.
"At one stage he wanted to leave school early, but we talked him out of it," sister Riki Kohlmeyer said.
It was while he was going to Narooma High School that Greg decided he wanted to go to the Duntroon Officers Academy.
"Gregory was told he would not get the marks required to get into Duntroon attending Narooma High School, but he was adamant that he would and he did," sister Riki said.
When Gregory finished high school he had achieved the results he needed to join the Duntroon Officers Academy where he studied marketing before moving into Ordnance and Staff where he eventually became a Senior Instructor.
Gregory is now married with two children and lives in Albury Wodonga.
"Gregory didn't tell his family that he was receiving Conspicuous Service Medal (CSM) and it was quite by accident that I found out," Riki said.
"I'm very proud of Greg and it just goes to show you, that if you follow your dreams you can achieve anything," she said.
