RENOWNED film maker Philip Hearnshaw was one of three Tanja property owners who opened their gardens on the Bermagui-Tathra Road on the weekend.
Mr Hearnshaw has been assistant director on films such as “Babe” and “Happy Feet”.
His real passion at the moment is his Tanja property that together with his wife Catherine he has turned into an amazing, productive garden that will only become more stunning as it matures.
Catherine and Philip's Garden is a grand vision resulting in extensive landscaping in the form of large basalt rocks in long dry stone walls, terraces linked by sweeping curves of steps, and arched arbours
Philip is living with Motor Neurone Disease but that has not stopped him transforming his property over the last three years.
Philip in his 4WD motorised wheelchair joined South Coast gardening guru Margaret Sirl and his gardening consultant and “head of garden” Chris Hamilton to lead a tour of his garden on Sunday.
The tour started in the kitchen vegetable garden and ended at the specially built “frog hotel” garden pond.
The three Tanja gardens were on display thanks to Australia's Open Garden Scheme, with proceeds going to a charity selected by each property owner.
Ceramicist Madeleine Meyer opened her Mediterranean-styled garden, while Deb and Jack Portelli's garden was created to provide an area for growing fruit and vegetables on an exposed windy hill.
