Wanted man flees A MAN wanted by police allegedly broke into the cultural centre at Wallaga Lake after earlier in the week escaping custody on foot and in a vehicle.
The 48-year-old local man was first contacted when his red Ford Falcon broke down on the Princes Highway at Tilba Tilba on Thursday and motorists called 000 after he and a female companion were seen walking down the middle of highway, narrowly being missed by a truck.
As police came down the hill past Central Tilba the man fled into bushland off the highway but the woman was apprehended and taken to Bega Hospital for psychiatric treatment.
Police on Friday made contact with the man again as he was driving a blue sedan on the back roads of Bermagui, but police decided not to chase the man after he sped away for safety reasons.
Then on Saturday, the caretaker of the Umburra Cultural Centre returned to find the same man, who is wanted on other warrants, inside the building.
The caretaker called 000 when the man allegedly became aggressive, but he fled into the bushland before police arrived.
