THE little kids at the Narooma and Bermagui preschools are leading the way when it comes to renewable energy.
Renewable energy company Pyramid Power installed the 2kw photovoltaic systems at Bermagui preschool on September 30 and then at Narooma preschool last week.
The preschools were lucky to be nominated as the community solar buildings through the Pyramid Power "Shine on" scheme that saw dozens of Narooma district residents sign up for the bulk buy of equipment.
The scheme came to grinding halt when the Federal Government unexpectedly and prematurely ended its funding.
The 2kw systems once connected to the grid would save an estimated $700 per year in energy bills.
Narooma preschool spokesperson Steph Ratcliffe said it was a significant saving, which would be passed on to the children by purchasing new equipment.
The pre-school was proactive in promoting sustainable living to the children and encouraged parents to do the same, she said.
“The staff, committee, parents and children would like to thank all those who were involved in the community bulk buy and helped make this happen.”
The preschool this week was also set to get a new solar hot water heating system installed thanks to the local Solarhart dealer.
Bermagui preschool meanwhile plans to celebrate this achievement with a launch at 5.30pm on Friday, October 23.
Local members Andrew Constance and Mike Kelly and the Bega Valley Shire Council mayor and councillors have been invited to attend.
