AFTER three years of planning and 10 months of construction, the new look Bermagui Fishermen’s Cooperative building is all go with businesses opening even as you read this.
“Exhausted and more than a little bit relieved,” is how co-op chairman Rocky Lagana described how everyone involved was feeling.
Two businesses, Bermagui Gift and the Pineapple House, were already trading last week with the other five businesses opening over the next few days and weeks.
These are the Horse and Camel Winebar, Julie Rutherford Real Estate, Bluewater Seafoods, Asian Cuisine and the Sun Deck Café.
The co-op is open and trading and all the traders would love to people to stop in and check out the view and what’s open.
Mr Lagana said all the businesses should be open in time for the grand opening on Friday, December 11 with a guest list still being finalised.
The new building has made a huge difference for the co-op’s fishermen and staff who since the demolition of the old co-op took place on January 5 had been working in a temporary area and the old Coastguard shack.
There was a lot more space and working area to offload and handle the fish before it was on its way to the city fish markets.
The co-op still had a couple of shop and office spaces available and was looking for someone to open an Italian or seafood restaurant.
