MICHAEL Wood has returned to town from England with his latest book “Walking with Stingrays” which is set entirely in Narooma.
The book is set in Narooma and through the main character, a British travel writer named James Ogle, heaps praise on Narooma.
Mr Ogle is a mad keen fisherman with lots of references to catching whiting and beach worming.
And the book is a definite page turner as he plots to kill his wife so that he can inherit her millions, which he needs to pay for a permanent visa.
This is also a strong theme in the book as Mr Wood writes about how older immigrants are only allowed to move to Australia if they fork out close to a $1 million to immigration authorities.
Although not exactly in the same boat as his partner wants to be close her family in England, he finds himself in the same situation not able to permanently retire to Narooma.
One positive of going back to grey, old England and the Lake District, is that boredom quickly sets in and he has plenty of time for writing his novels.
His first novel “The Fell Walker” is set in the Lake District of England.
Mr Wood said he hoped his new book did attract people from around the world to Narooma, as it was aimed at people overseas who did not have well formed ideas about Australia..
“Walking with Stingrays” is now available at Narooma Visitor Centre, Narooma Newsagency, The Purple Possum, The Pineapple House – Bermagui, Moruya Books and the Tilba Winery.
The Narooma News still hopes to do a proper review once the flooding settles down…
