Local charter competes
On Friday, the crew from Lighthouse Charters led by skipper Wazza with family in tow, Karen, Alison and Brooke, with deckie Col and Lisa set off from Narooma to fish the Bermagui Big Game Angling Club Blue Water Classic.
The vibe on the boat was high as it was the girls’ first tournament and they were excited for their first day’s marlin fishing.
After about three hours, seven-year-old Brooke started to question her dad: “Why haven’t we caught a marlin yet?”
When the girls had just about given up, they had a strike and were hooked up and the pure excitement was on the striped marlin was captured after about an 1.25-hour fight and it weighed 92.6 kg
On day two with a poor weather forecast the kids opted to stay at home and the day saw Lisa tag an 80kg mako shark and with another hook up saw Col do battle with an estimated 400kg plus tiger shark for more than hours and the monster was lost at the side of the boat on the trace at 7.45pm Saturday night.
The crew of Lighthouse Charters ended up with second highest tag and release point scoring boat for shark or other game fish.
Two great days fishing and a fantastic time had by all.
