Big blue marlin a warm up for ANSA convention

24 Feb, 2010 11:14 AM
THE Narooma Sporting and Services Club had a bit of a warm up for this weekend’s Australian National Sportfishing Association (ANSA) convention when a 210-kilogram blue marlin was weighed in on Monday afternoon.

The big fish was caught on the charter boat The Sheriff on Monday morning taking a skirted lure trolled out at the Kink.

On board were five clients who were construction workers from Wollongong working on the Sir James at Dalmeny development over the past few months and who came back especially for a trip to the shelf.

The lucky angler to be on strike when the fish hit was Alex Gouveia of Port Kembla who battled the fish for about 45 minutes.

This was his second trip on a game boat and his first big fish.

Skipper Andy Legg said it was perfect “cobolt” conditions out there with 23 degree water and plenty of slimies, sauries, bonito and striped tuna around on the surface.

Some of the steaks were sampled by the boys on Monday night, while the rest of the fish went up to Batemans Bay to be turned into a mould.
