Bodalla's Deanne Murphy is world champion bodybuilder

16 Dec, 2009 12:49 PM
BODALLA born bodybuilding beauty, Deanne Murphy has just returned from competing in the WNBF (World Natural Bodybuilding Federation) World championships in New York City.

Deanne competed in the MS Exercise Professional Figure Division where a panel of judges unanimously voted her the winner and making history by becoming the first ever Australian Professional Figure competitor to win a world title.

Winning the title was something Deanne had dreamed of winning for years.

When they announced that Deanne had won she said, "It felt amazing, I couldn't believe everything I imagined was actually coming true."

"It was like something out of a movie, people's camera flashes going off and the Aussie team were all jumping up and congratulating me.

Deanne won the Overall World Champion Title, the champion trophy and $2,000 prize money.

From here Deanne looks forward to TV and magazine opportunities and plans to continue training other women to compete next year.

In fact it was Australian Amber Walker who was found and trained by Deanne who won the Best Body Swimsuit Title at this years world championship.

Deanne plans on defending her title again next year.

"I would love to see if I can do it again, I know in myself I still have so much more to give," she said.

Deanne now lives in Sydney but went to school at Narooma High and finished year 12 in 1999.

She trains six days a week, about three hours a day as well as working full time in IT and running her business called 'Pro Model Workshop' where she trains and prepares girls looking to step into fitness modelling.

As a girl Deanne was a keen athlete competing in track and field, representing Narooma at state levels and going on to rank 16th in Australia at the age of 17 before she moved on from track and field competition in 2000 to pursue sports modelling.

Deanne has previously represented Australia three times: in the 2007 World Championships placing fifth, the 2008 Pro International in Kansas City placing fifth and in the 2008 World Championships in New York placing second.

Her parents still live in Bodalla and her grandmothers still live in Narooma.

"I would really like to thank my grandmothers Valerie Andrews of Narooma and Joan O'Connor of Dalmeny for providing support through the tough training in the last month leading up to the Worlds," she said.
