THOSE who have entered the Get Moving challenge are starting to see results as the 10-week program reached its halfway mark last week.
The Narooma News has teamed up with the Southern General Practice Network to offer the free Get Moving campaign with prizes for those who show the most improvement at the end of the 10-week course.
The Get Moving program has been going for several months now and will continue once the Narooma News challenge is over.
There are around 35 in the Narooma News challenge and as many as 150 in the whole program in Narooma and this includes those who have been doing aqua classes.
The Get Moving program is all about preventative health care and heading off the national epidemic of obesity and type II diabetes.
Coordinating the program is Linda Campbell of the GP network.
Then those enrolled have been participating in aerobic and resistance fitness sessions hosted by Linda, as well as fitness instructors Jacob Pumphrey, Cheryl Turner and Nancy Casu, offered at several times during the week.
Linda last week measured the progress of all the competitors based on improvements in their overall body mass index and waist measurement.
"The measurements show improvements in many participant's waist measurements which is a great outcome given this is a specific risk factor for diabetes and heart disease" she said.
The overall winner will receive a $350 fitness program at the participating provider of their choice, with a second place winner receiving $200 worth of fitness training.
Anyone interested in turning over a new leaf and getting fit should register with Linda Campbell, who is more than eager to answer any questions.
