Junior Devils take on the Sharks
The Narooma Sorting and Services Junior Rugby League Devils took on the very strong Moruya-Tuross Sharks last week. Next week the Tathra Sea-Eagles come to play the Devils at home at Smyth Oval in all grades so come on down to see the stars of the future.

The U8s made the journey north to Moruya, to play the Moruya Sharks. The Devils got off to a great start with Ian breaking through the defence in the second play of the ball, to get over the line for a try. Kaleb was able to kick over for a conversion. But Moruya struck back to even the scores. Not long in the second third Kaleb showed his talent and put it down for the Devils second, with Mack kicking for the conversion. Again Moruya struck back. Then with some quick thinking Mack ran from dummy half to get the ball over. We went into the break again with the scores even.
The last third started well with Marcus making a break and there was no stopping him, this kid has speed. He flew down the sideline to get it over for the Devils fourth try of the day. Connor made the conversion look easy, putting it right in the middle of the sticks. Moruya evened the scores again and it looked like the game would end in a draw. Libby made some strong runs, just coming up short of the line, supported well by her sister Sammy, who had a good go in her first game. Bradley was strong in defence keeping Moruya out. Connor had a great all-round game making valuable metres and some try saving tackles. Just before full time Toby's efforts were rewarded when his persistent strong runs saw him get over the line for the final try of the match. Well done U8s.
Coach's award: Mack Green
U9s v Moruya-Tuross
A tough game with some brillant individual runs and tackles that gave Narooma's minor injuries some balm. All the 14 players showed up and Moruya had a strong team, but Narooma's defence was awesome and matched theirs. Connor left us spell bound at times, made two tries and was Man of the Match. He is a great player for his first year in league. Blake made the other two tries. He always plays hard and fast and is such a natural it is a pleasure to watch. He deserved coach's award. Players put their best forward, with Nyeasha playing exceptionally well. Randall and Jackson showed their goal kicking skills and overall the whole team needs a pat on the back for their defence and working together. Two Brothers Mechanical must be proud to sponsor U9s, they are becoming a team to be reckoned with. Thanks to coach Adam, (your time and effort is paying off), Linesmen Ross, and parents for being there.

Narooma 4 versus Moruya 24
After last week's fine footy effort, it was disappointing that only seven players turned up for the game against Moruya Sharks on Saturday. This meant the team had to forfeit - costing the club a $250 fine. Being part of a team has benefits and downfalls. Please consider your teammates when deciding if you are going to attend upcoming matches. Nobody (parents or players) enjoys travelling to be told there are not enough players to field a team.
Moruya Sharks agreed to a scratch match and had to give four players to Narooma so that we could field a team. A big thanks to Ben, James, Jake, Ashton, Shane, Ryan, Dakota and Chris for their sportsmanship and effort.
The game started quickly with the Sharks identifying opportunities early. The Sharks are a well drilled team that have been playing together since most of them were five-years-old. They are always a tough competitive team that can offload well and have set plays. They forged ahead early towards their line and despite the Devils best attempts, we were outclassed. This didn't limit the effort our team displayed. In a tough game the points ticked over up until half time when the Devils got a well-deserved break. Scores 24-0.
All the Devils put in a top effort - Franco's kicking game is going from strength to strength, he chased, kicked, ran and passed. Jacob stepped into the hooker role well, tackled and chased and made a super fast break running 50 metres in what looked like a sure try only to be pulled down metres out. Darcy fired up in the centre - busting defenders and running well - drawing three, four or five defenders to often set up advantageous plays. Kye had several good hit ups, chased fast break runs and played a great defensive game. Brandon continues to improve each week and put his body on the line time and time again trying to keep the Sharks from gaining ground. Both Jaydean and Steph played well and defended on the wing against some big and experienced players holding their own, their attacking game is improving; as is their confidence. Remi captained the team and displayed her experience and skill in defence and attack completing a gutsy run, palm and classy offload to one of the borrowed Sharks players to score over on the wing - the borrowed player putting up the only points for the Devils. The final hooter went and the disappointed Devils left the field with a 24-4 loss.
Coach Spike decided everyone displayed great determination and rewarded them with a best and fairest "Raw Prawn" voucher for trying hard and not giving up.
It is hoped that everyone turns up for training on Friday at Smyth Oval at 4pm.

U/11s versus Moruya-Tuross=Lost 36/16
The boys really put in a big effort in the first half and ten minutes into the second half only behind by one try but they tired towards the end as we only had nine players on the field with no reserves they found it hard to get possession again in the last ten minutes. A big game from Derain, Matty H and Sean Lee putting on some big tackles. Matty Hayden either put them down or if he missed he chased them down and tackled them down. He threw everything he had into defence. Jake Morris and Jordan had a bit of competition chasing down the Sharks that broke through the line Jordan wrapped them up and they weren't going anywhere fast. Whilst Derain was big in defence he also had a great kicking game his first kick at the end of our first set of six was dropped by the Sharks and Kyle from U10s dived on the ball to score. The next try was scored by Derain after a bustling run to barge through and score a try and convert himself. Jacob Lazzaro made metres every time he got the ball. Chris and Matty Swadling both had a couple of good runs. Jake Morris did it again stepped through their defence from the 20 metre line and Lazzaro. Coaches award went to Matthew Hayden.
Thanks also to Kyle for playing in the 11s, and Brodie Curruthers for running the water.
