ON the weekend February 4 and 5, 13 swimmers representing the Narooma Swim Club travelled to Ulladulla to compete in the Area Championships.
There were 24 clubs competing ranging from the large clubs of West Illawarra Aquatic, Dapto and Wollongong right down to the smaller clubs of Batemans Bay, Moruya and Narooma just to name a few. In an amazing result Narooma finished in fourth place in the overall club points score which everyone agreed was a super effort.
On the individual front there were many medals and many highlights Georgia Pendergast, Banjo King, Baillee O'Brien, Clifford Taylor, Rory Spurgeon, Khan Schroder-Turner, Lewis Robertson and everyone’s inspiration Tracy King all scoring medals.
There were great swims and lots of personal bests (PB's) from Tom and Sophie Brown, Amy Spurgeon, Jackson Taylor and Cecilia Colom-Davis.
Coach Rhett Dufty and all the parents were delighted when the age Champions were announced with four Narooma swimmers being crowned.
Banjo King - 8 Year Boys Champion; Georgia Pendergast 9 Year Girls Champion; Clifford Taylor 13 Year Boys Champion; and Lewis Robertson 16 Year Boys Champion.
Narooma swimmers also qualified for the Country Championships. They were Georgia Pendergast in the 50m Freestyle. Lewis Robertson in the 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke. Clifford Taylor qualified in the 100m Butterfly and Khan Schroder-Turner qualified in the 50m Breaststroke.
The Country Championships are at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on the weekend of February 25 and 26.
Some Championship records were also swum by Narooma swimmers were club captain Khan Schoder-Turner swimming the 16 year boys 50m butterfly with a time of 30.40.
Lewis Robertson in 16 year Boys 100m freestyle time 1.00.22 and 16 year boys 50m freestyle time 26.52.
