Redbacks juniors’ hard-fought games

14/05/2008 2:29:00 PM
U9 Narooma Whites 0 Batemans Bay 1

This Sunday saw the team travelling to Bateman’s Bay for what was to be a hard fought game.

We had a great first half with Nick in goals and he was great at blocking their attempts, although we were down a couple of players the team managed to keep the score at nil all in the first half.

Zoe and Sarah were fantastic in the backs with Logan and managed to do some awesome tackles and help the forwards by belting the ball back to them when the Bay had possession.

Elliott was a stand out in running the ball from one end to the other, Jamie, Kayla and James were up in the forwards and ran their little hearts out passing the ball between them.

It was great to see such good team work and passing of the ball.

Second half had Elliott in goals and boy can he boot that ball out of the goal area.

We had no reserves to give the kids a break and on a hot sunny Mothers Day, but that didn’t stop the kids, they all ran strong and hard and did us mums all proud.

Nick was as usual great with his fancy footwork confusing the Bay team at times.

Zoe was just superb with pinching the ball from the Bay, Sarah showed just cause she’s a girl doesn’t mean she cant get in the thick of it she was powerful out there.

James did some great tackles and belted the ball down field.

Kayla and Jamie once again were close to scoring but missed out but it was not through lack of trying and the help of other team mates getting the ball to them.

The Bay finally just snuck one through and got 1 goal up.

The final score being Batemans Bay 1 and Narooma 0 - it was so close and was a thrill a minute.

All us parents were very proud of you.

Well done, you played so well.

Narooma Reds U9 8 v Bodalla 2

In the first half both teams seemed to be evenly matched going kick for kick, tackle for tackle, however with Abby, Grace Nikita and Sian positioning themselves and the “full steam ahead” play from Hayden, Sam and Kyle saw Narooma scoring first and with Kelly and Ziggy’s great ball passing Narooma secured a second goal soon after.

Luke in goals made some fantastic saves and kept the game moving with his quick responses.

Cruising nicely at 2/0 Bodalla played tougher and despite Narooma’s defense still strong they scored 2 goals just before half time.

Second half, Narooma played some skilled soccer.

Sian and Nikita kept on top of the ball and were excellent at marking their opponents, Abby and Grace intercepting and redirecting ball play, with strong defence.

Great positioning and good strong kicks from Ziggy, Luke and Kelly with Hayden scoring another TWO goals and Sam scoring another FOUR goals, finishing off the game with a convincing 8-2 victory.

A special mention about Kyle’s spectacular save in goals with Bodalla making 2 failed attempts in the last 30 seconds of the match.

Kip (coach) and parents were very impressed with all players.

Well done.

Coaches Raw Prawn Bistro Awards go to Sam and Hayden

U10s Narooma v Bodalla

This game was a top of the ladder clash, played with lots of ferocity and pace. Narooma gave it everything they had and played so well, passing and running the ball up, as well as defending strongly.

Some awesome goal keeping, great throw-ins, big kicks, long passes and sensational headers meant that Narooma really took it up to Bodalla.

This was a great, tight game, and Narooma showed lots of team work.

Congratulations to Raw Prawn Bistro players of the match Clifford and Luke, who both put in an outstanding effort against a tough opposition.

Thanks go to coaches Peter and Patrick who did a great job juggling a lot of subs, and ensuring that the team was competitive.

U14 boys Narooma 7 v Moruya Swans 0

The sun already had some bite in it when Narooma faced the Moruya Swans on Sunday.

Jordan scored just a few minutes after kick-off, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

He played very well up front, scoring another three goals to seal Moruya’s fate.

Josh T scored two goals, one of them from a great pass from Ivan.

Ewen completed the scorecard with a lovely goal.

Ivan, Braedon and Luke J had great fun up front during the second half, while defenders Josh S, Blair, Bob and Josh H defended strongly and put through some big kicks.

Thanks to coach Matt for ensuring that the game was played fairly.

The team will be playing their deferred game against the Moruya Blues this Wednesday at 6pm at Dalmeny, followed by a sausage sizzle.

This game will be instead of training.

U12s Narooma 4 Bodalla 4

On Saturday Narooma U12s took on competition leaders Bodalla at Bodalla.

The game started well for both teams, with the ball moving back and forth, defence being strong.

At the back, as usual, Brodie and Kye cleared anything that looked threatening.

After ten minutes, Lachlan broke away down the wing, passed to Brian, who moved it on to Jay and then to Max who slotted it past the goalie.

Not to be outdone, Bodalla soon levelled from a direct penalty that gave Daniel in goal no chance.

Bodalla moved into the lead several minutes later when a cross kick from a throw found the net.

In the minute before half-time, Liam put a great ball through to Brian who levelled the scores.

Two minutes into the half, a Bodalla cross led to a great header and they once again took the lead, but soon after Jack sized up the goalie and sent the ball spiraling past him.

The scores now were tied at three all.

Narooma seemed to be getting on top as Daniel picked up a rebound off the goalie to kick his first goal of the year, but once again, from a corner, Bodalla found the goal from a head and the scores were locked at four all with fifteen minutes to go.

Narooma had several chances to go ahead - a strong drive from Scott flew wide and Brian, Max and Jack all had chances.

At the back, Tristan was very strong until he was replaced.

Michael, Nick and Marc repeatedly broke down the Bodalla attack and kept pushing the ball upfield, but in the end, the referee’s whistle signaled a fitting result.

Once again the whole team played well, with Brian being awarded the Raw Prawn Bistro Man of the Match.

Good luck to Jack, Max, Brian, Kye and Jay as they represent Eurobodalla next weekend in the final round of the Branch Championships.

U14 girls Narooma V Moruya

Well our girl’s must have gotten up early to prepare breakfast in bed for their mother’s on this Mother’s Day because for the first half of the game they all looked like they were ready to go back to bed themselves.

Before you could say open your present we were down four nil going into the break.

The second half saw a fully awake team eager to redeem themselves and it showed with constant go forward and committed defence.

Although Moruya managed one more goal we were unlucky on a number of occasion’s not to score and deprived the opposition of more goal’s as well.

The final score of five nil Moruya’s way did not reflect the back’s to the wall attitude of our girl’s in the second half which went a long way to salvaging some pride.

Raw Prawn Bistro Player of the match goes to Shannyn Tasker with the encouragement award going to Jaimee Allan
