Surf Lifesaving Club stoked with early interest

28 Oct, 2009 11:51 AM
THE Narooma Surf Lifesaving Club was really pleased with the great turn out at its registration day on Sunday.

An amazing 60 new members, both young and old turned up to register as well as many renewing members.

Among the new members were young couple Curtis and Jade Hancock, who work in Canberra but who have just bought a weekender in Narooma and plan to join and compete with the Narooma club.

They are accomplished triathlon competitors who recently competed at the World Championships at the Gold Coast last month.

Curtis finished 11th out of the 50 or so competitors in his age group, while Jade finished 58th out of 80 competitors in her division.

The surf club rowers are also in the middle of preparations for the George Bass surfboat marathon that starts on January 3.

The women trained on Saturday while the men practised beach starts and finishes on Sunday.

The surf club is also excited by Michael and Cherene Stokes taking over the kiosk with his gourmet food and a great new alfresco dining area.

"Hopefully this will be the Surf Club's best year yet!" Lin Wilton said.
