The Tooheys New Crew and Broulee community to the rescue

18 Jan, 2012 11:23 AM
THE Broulee Surfers Surf Life Saving Club completes an impressive 30 rescues each year – and is the worthy recipient of the next Tooheys New Crew favour!

So this Australia Day, the Tooheys New Crew and the NSW Origin Legends will be coming to revamp the local Broulee Surfers Surf Life Saving Club and to host the biggest Beach Bash Broulee has ever experienced.

Headed by rugby league legend Paul “The Chief” Harragon, the Tooheys New Crew is a team of skilled tradies and good mates who complete favours in the form of building projects for communities across Australia.

In 2011, the Crew’s inaugural year, they completed an incredible one million beers worth of favours and are on the road to do it again this year with the renovations at Broulee marking the beginning.

In the spirit of Australia Day, the Crew along with NSW Origin Legends Max Krillich, Blocker Roach and Paul Sironen, and the help of local volunteers, will rectify the problems with the current deck and viewing platform that was recently condemned by the local Council.

With the deck out of action, the Clubhouse, which also doubles as a Community Centre, has come to a standstill in the busiest time of the year — so the Tooheys New Crew jumped at the chance to get involved. While the Crew are there, they’ll also give the club a face-lift with a much needed paint job.

Paul Harragon believes that the Tooheys New Crew is all about fostering community spirit by doing favours for mates that have a lasting positive impact on communities.

Harragon feels the Broulee Surfers Surf Life Saving Club definitely deserve a helping hand from the Crew, following their recent highly commended award for Rescue of the Year, and their citation for their response to a helicopter crash at Lilli Pilli.

“The Crew are excited to improve the facilities at Broulee Surfers Surf Life Saving Club and are more than happy to lend a hand to a group of people who deserve recognition for their outstanding efforts and dedication to saving lives,” Harragon said.

The Crew will need volunteers to help with the painting on January 25-26. If you are over 18 years old and able to come down and lend a hand, please contact Wendy Law on 0438 740 779.

To celebrate the completion of the work at Broulee, Paul Harragon and the NSW Origin Legends will host an Australia Day Beach Bash at the Broulee Surfers Surf Life Saving Club.

There will be market stalls from 10am, followed by a BBQ in the afternoon, plus a host of surf life saving and beach activities.

Where the team goes next is up to the public. Anyone can ask the Tooheys New Crew for a favour.

The crew is currently looking for building projects that will make a difference to communities in Australia, and welcome any submissions. Favours can be anything from renovating a local sporting facility, to sprucing up a community centre or improving a run-down recreational area. Go to tooheysnew.com.au or facebook.com/TooheysNew to ask the crew for a favour.
