Waves on at Pinnacles

30 Jun, 2005 09:42 AM
It was a typical winter morning that greeted those keen enough to front for the One Tree point Boardriders monthly point score competition.

After checking out the beaches along Tuross Boulevarde it was decided to hold the comp' at Pinnacles.

The surf looked a bit messy from the headland but the occasional three foot sets were coming through.

With the tide on the turn things were going to get better as the day went on.

The cadets were the keenest to get out amongst it and the first heat competitors jumped off the rocks and paddled out to greet the sets.

Fearless Jimmy Haskew and Paul Johnson took no time in getting good points on the board.

Grommet Rhyce Kingdom, surfing up a division, was a commendable third as he surfed closer to Coila beach to get the right and left handers.

Rhyce showed how to catch the rip back out and make light work of an otherwise tough paddle.

Jake Clarke had some good rides and rode each one to the end. Jake scored top points for the day.

Close on Jake's heels was Jake Spellacy who was right at home in some of the larger waves.

Unfortunately Jake Spellacy snapped a board and could not continue in his heat.

The sets were improving and there were some barrelling waves up for grabs.

The Open Division tucked into the barrels that were served up with Ben Johnson and Isaac Ishadi fighting it out for top spot.

Ben Johnson de-servedly won the day earning top points.

Mark Hanigan and Serg Dobson were keen to level the score in the second round.

The young guns were too good on the day but Mark and Serg still managed a smile when the second heat came to an end.

In the Cadet Girls Jess Dobson collected top points on the day with Samantha Facchin finishing second and Sophie Kershaw in third place.

The girls handled the trying conditions well with some impressive riding on the one metre sets.

With the surf lining up the longboarders braved the cool conditions and paddled out.

After spending time looking at the conditions the competitors decided Stoneys was delivering the best waves.

Graeme Errington got some nice rights while Mick Challice caught the lefts.

Peter Lock came second in the second round with Troy Kingdom coming fourth.

Congratulations to member Ray Lawrence coming third in the State Longboard Championship in the open division.

Great supporter of the club Ian Hockey came second in the over fifty division.

The competition was held at Bonny Hills.

Well done.
