There can only be one subject for this week’s editorial: the rain!
It was fantastic even though I had last week off, something always tends to happen when I am away from the newsroom!
After watching the levels rise in Corunna and Nangudga rise and rise, it was however disappointing that these lakes did not break through.
What a difference a couple of weeks make as it was only a couple of editions ago when we had the screaming headline “Drought turns deadly” and the pitiful picture of fish being rescued from Nangudga.
Now let’s hope we get that rain forecast for the end of the week that will finally break free these remaining estuaries.
I held off from speaking to farmers as they won’t know how they are faring until we get that follow-up rain and besides that’s the standard line for those on the land - “we need the follow-up rains!”
Whether the drought is over, no one knows….
