Narooma News editorial: Feb. 24

24 Feb, 2010 10:55 AM
A hot topic in today’s Narooma News is an affordable housing development of 18 units proposed for the Princes Highway.

As can be seen by the voxpop opposite, everyone is pretty much in agreement that the town and area does need more affordable housing.

What the opponents are going on about is the location.

There are probably easier and cheaper blocks to build on in Narooma, so how this block was chosen remains a mystery.

But while block in question is expensive, so is all land in Narooma, and while the block in question is steep, so is the retirement village at Dalmeny.

That is simply the lay of the land in Narooma.

Mike Kelly was not able to get back us in time to say whether he is happy with the way the stimulus funding is being spent on this project, but let’s hope we hear from him later.

Surely the best approach is to spread out affordable housing throughout the community so that you don’t end up with ghettos or problem areas.

Changing topics, we had such a great response to last week’s flood photos that there was not a Narooma News to be had…so let’s hope continued coverage in this edition goes a little way to satisfy the demand for dramatic flooding pictures.

And thanks again to all our contributing photographers!
