A community out in force
THE response from local residents protesting separate issues has been impressive.
Firstly, more than 40 people took the hills on Saturday after a public meeting called the night before by Andrew Constance about the proposed Housing NSW development off Davidson Street.
Many who came did not even live next to proposal but were there for other probably political reasons or perhaps they just don’t think building on the site is a good idea.
Unfortunately getting the State Government to reverse the project is going to be extremely difficult as it is a law until itself.
Then on Monday, after a quick ring around the neighbourhood, those on Riverside Drive opposed to the removal of the Lewis Island bridge removal were able to get another 40 people to attend for a photo shoot.
Again there are very strong feelings about the subject and residents have vowed a fight to the death, but hopefully local government is a little more understanding and easier to influence.
Down in Tathra and around Wyndham another 500 turned out to protest logging.
Finally, there must be something in the air as the Narooma News received what must be a record 20 letters to the editor – so many we have three pages of letters but apologies to anyone that missed out. There is always next week!
