Mural of the sea at Narooma Preschool

THE Year 9 art class from Narooma High School last week unveiled its colourful, ocean-themed mural on the fence of Narooma Preschool.

The 16 students and art teacher Jenni Bourke over the last term worked on the mural with theme depicting the preschool’s three class groups: the Dolphins, Whales and Penguins.

Each student, many of them who started their schooling at the preschool, did a drawing of their ideas and these were incorporated into the mural, which features penguins on and whales around Montague Island.

The new mural actually was commissioned by the preschool after the previous, much-loved “dinosaur” mural made by Mrs Bourke and a previous art class faded after many years.

Over the years the art students have created almost 30 murals and art projects around town from bus stops to toilet blocks to offices.

Narooma Preschool committee president Alana Owens-Stewart handed thank-you certificates to each of the students and also thanked Mac Building Services for putting up the mural and Brent Lockton of Narooma Auto Rentals for busing the students down for the unveiling.
