CONTINUING the tradition of supporting local community events, a cheque for $5000 was presented to the Committee of the Tilba School of Arts by Erica Dibden, the incoming president of the Tilba Easter Festival Committee.
The money was donated from the 2012 Easter Festival and is a demonstration of the ongoing contribution that the annual Easter Festival makes to the community that has kept the festival alive for more than 25 years.
Tilba School of Arts president Judy-ann Donnelan said the money would go toward planned major restoration works to the back stage area of the small hall including improved access.
“The upkeep of these historic buildings is met by the community; donations such as this from the festival committee ensure we can continue to maintain the grand halls in a safe state,” Judy-ann said.
“A minimum of $120 per week is needed just to cover upkeep, without any additional improvements.”
The presentation of the cheque occurred at the Tuesday night class of the Tilba Tappers, Tilba’s very own tap dance troupe under expert tutelage of Bev Long.
Bev is carrying on her role as entertainment officer for the festival. “The Tuesday adult tap classes and the Thursday children's classes are just one example of the benefit that these beautiful halls give to our community,” Bev said.
The organizing committee for the 2013 Tilba Easter Festival has begun preparations for the Easter Saturday event that allows the main street of Central Tilba to be closed to traffic and opened to the community in a celebration of the old country skills of bushies boot throwing, cheese rolling and the egg toss, as well as an eclectic mix of market stalls and music.
Young local bands and musicians who would like to be part of the day are encouraged to contact Bev Long on 4473 7253 or bevandstew@southernphone.com.au
The Tilba Easter Festival bans the car for a day while families of locals and visitors alike, fill Bate Street from end to end.
An event such as the Tilba Easter Festival relies on the help from local people who plan and run the whole day.
