New Oz flag for Bodalla

IT has been a long time since the residents of Bodalla have been able to raise the Australian flag on the flagpole at the War Memorial near the community hall but that is about to change.

Bodalla resident Robert McCuaig approached the regional convenor for the Far South Coast of NSW with the Order of Australia Association, Jennifer Butt OAM and she approached the committee who was able to donate an Australian flag to the village.

Robert McCuaig provided the rope, Patrick Butt, Jennifer’s husband attached the flag and with the assistance of local artist Ritchey Sealy the flag was raised for the first time in many years.

The flag will be raised on special occasions and in the meantime, Mr McCuaig is approaching an indigenous elder about also flying the Aboriginal flag.

The next time the flag will fly is on Australia Day when the inaugural Bodalla Twilight Markets in the grounds of All Saints Church and the Bodalla Dairy Shed. At the same time the Bodalla Arms Hotel is holding a car boot and bric-a-brac.
