Social bowls winners circle
Wednesday, January 9 - A much more comfortable day saw 56 bowlers (8 rinks of triples and 2 rinks of pairs) nominated for the Maggsy's special afternoon of social bowls. The way the winners were was by the side with the most points won over five mystery ends of the 21 end match. That winning side was Warren (Cuddles) Bender, John (president of vice) Downie and Neville Mitchell, with 14 mystery end points over Kevin Cullen, Scott Kennedy and Greg Ryan unfortunately nil points. The runners-up on the day were the side of Bob Robbins, Maurice Ferguson and Col Armstrong - 10 mystery end points over Joe Halsey, Allan Connor and Keith Pickett 1 mystery end point.
Friday, January 11 - The afternoon mixed jackpot bowls saw the side of Mavis Hardy, Leila Gosper, Dawn Kenny 26 shots defeat Sue Wales, Marg. Naylor, Carol Greenfield 19 shots. The afternoon's runners-up were Isabel Halsey, Joe Halsey and Helen Donovan 24 shots over Gail Riley, Anne Hunter and Willie Blink 12 shots. As the jackpot was not won this week next Friday the jackpot will be worth $522. So put your name down for a game and maybe get a share of the jackpot.
Saturday, January 12. As there was a pennants trial match being played against Tomakin, there were only 14 social bowlers compete for the afternoon's prize. The winners on the afternoon were ‘the duck’ and Peter McKay, 21 shots (12 ends) over Brian Kelly and John Child 21 shots (9 ends). Next Saturday we will have only one green and we will have to play triples, so get your names down.
The result of the pennant trial played between Tomakin for the annual Nar-Tom Shield, saw three rinks and one rink drawn to Tomakin, to Narooma's two rinks and one rink drawn, with the over-all match score 118 shots each. As Narooma was the present holder of the shield and with the shot score being equal, Narooma retains the honour and holders of the Nar-Tom shield for another year.
Until next time this is "Ditch Rink" signing off
Narooma women’s bowls
Unfortunately, the first day of ladies social bowls for 2013 was called off early last Tuesday when the temperature soared and strong gusty winds made conditions unsuitable for play. There are no birthdays this week.
Competition for the year started yesterday with the Novice Singles scheduled for play. Results next week.

Club Social Bowls, Monday January 7: Winners on the lucky rinks system were Clyde Maslen, Jack Thompson and Roger Cheel from runners up Ken Bennie, Ken Torkington and John Lonergan with the resting toucher going to Keith Cook.
The $322 jackpot went off.
Thursday January 10 winners on the 'secret ends' system were Peter Pickett, Chris Harris and Torf Aspaas from runners-up Peter Hoskin, Elaine Lavis and Ray Wilson with the resting toucher having a day off and the jackpot was also not won.
Friday January 11 Twilight Bowls: Winners were Leigh Falkiner and Peter Benson from runners-up Luke Ryan and Mark Dudley with the resting toucher going off on the last end to ex-petrol pumper, Brendan Cole.
Another great twilight for bowls with 20 players and three close finishes and two not so!
Luke and Mark got up by 2 on the last end to get on top of Luke and Neil (who was beaten in the wrong biasstakes by none other than the 'postman', Joe).
Joe and Brendan had a big win over Frank and Ray by eight shots. The Seamans, Luke and Marty, were washed out by the other Marty (Turner) partnered with Donny Brown 13 shots to 6.
The Hansen boys, Brad and Adrian, held on to win by two shots over 'Peter Bashford' and 'Whacker' and Aussie Pete and Leigh (first game of twilights) ran away over the last three ends for a keenly fought win over Kathy Ryan and John McFarland in a see sawing match which Leigh "pulled a couple of crackers" on the last end to demoralize the opposition.
See you again next week (Aussie Pete).
A couple of results recorded in the Minor Pairs Championship held this week were: Bob Peady and Neil Freser defeated Dave Byway and Keith Cook in a cliffhanger 18/17; C Goldsmith and B Jones defeated G Lavis and R Mckibbon in another close one 18/15.
