Narooma area police report: Jan. 16

Fire ban violation

A FIRE was lit in logs and other debris at premises in the Narooma Industrial Estate on Sunday morning despite it being a total fire ban day.

The RFS attended to extinguish the fire. Police interviewed a 59-year-old Narooma man at the scene and are making further inquiries.

 Campground thefts

SEVERAL incidents of theft from campgrounds in the Narooma have been reported, including a mountain bike from the resort south of Narooma overnight on Saturday.

On the same night in a campground on the Narooma Flat, an iPod Touch and Samsung mobile were stolen after being left out on a chair next to a tent.

While another mountain bike and an Esky full of food and drink was stolen from outside another tent.

Follow too close

A WEST Australian driver, 52, was fined for following too close to stop after he rear ended a car on the Princes Highway waiting to turn into Willcocks Avenue, Narooma at 5.35pm on Saturday.

Car vandalised

A 2007-model VW Beetle parked at a beach in Bermagui between 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Tuesday last week was vandalised with the read window smashed and panels on both sides scratched.

Fire pump stolen

A BROGO resident spurned into action by the approaching bush fire last week discovered that their fire pump worth $700 had been stolen in the past three months.

Plants found

POLICE on Thursday located two cannabis plants in the garden of a house on Hay Street, Bermagui and have spoken to a female resident.

 Drug dog

POLICE using a drug-detecting dog search patrons at local hotels on Saturday night locating a small amount of cannabis on a man at a Narooma hotel, who is being dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

Low ranger

A 38-year-old Victorian man failed a random breath test on the Princes Highway, Narooma at 2.30pm on Saturday and was charged with low-range drink driving.

Oil spill

POLICE directed traffic as the northbound lane of the Princes Highway at the Narooma bridge was closed for about 30 minutes due to an oil spill at around 8.30am on Monday.

RFS and RMS crews also responded to clean up the roadway.

 Plate stolen

THE licence plate on a boat trailer parked at Apex Park, Narooma was reported stolen between 5am and 10am on Thursday.

 Lost iPhone

A WHITE iPhone 4 in a black case was reported by a local to be lost somewhere in Narooma on Thursday.
