Illegal campers come and go at Narooma

LOCALS were surprised to see a camp set up on the sensitive shoreline behind Narooma’s Bar Beach last week.

The two men and their dog appeared on the spot on Monday morning after driving their camper van through the scrub detaching their boat nearby and hanging out on the shoreline.

By 6pm on Monday evening, the campers had vanished leading locals to suspect they had a visit from the Eurobodalla Shire Council ranger.

But a council spokesperson said this matter had not been brought to the attention of council until now.

Council advises owners of vehicles, including boats and campervans, to restrict their use to designated roads, camping and other specialised facilities in order to prevent potential damage to the environment and conflicts with other users of an area.

If your readers are concerned about illegal camping or other misuse of an area, they are invited to contact Eurobodalla Shire Council on 4474 1000.

Alternatively, they can contact the relevant land manager/owner or government authority such as the National Parks and Wildlife Service, which will investigate the matter.
