ROUGH seas have unfortunately dominated over the past week culminating with this week’s huge seas that put an early end to the Bermagui Bluewater Classic game fishing tournament.
The 75 boats registered did some get fishing in earlier in the weekend.
Around a dozen fish were tagged on Saturday, including some small yellowfin tuna and a couple of mako sharks.
But it was relatively quiet given boat numbers fishing the tournament.
There were a few stories of fish lost including trailer boat Wicked One having four fish up at once.
Late last week, the weather was also not good but the boat Tuna Terror tagged a striped that ate one of his new lures and a blue marlin was also tagged.
Manohunter switch baited up a striped marlin after a morning on the kings at Montague Island but dropped him.
One customer had two striped marlin up on livies bit they wouldn't eat.
We saw a straightened Mustad 7691 and an eBay swivel opened up for another.
One boat landed 10 or so yellowfin and a marlin came up and ate one of them.
There were also plenty of small big eye tuna and mahi mahi up to 9kg sitting under floating gear also.
Earlier last week there was a bit of a southerly offshore but game boats Billraiser and Hotshot were out the front where conditions looked great for striped marlin.
There was bait and a bit of tide pushing westward. Wobbles (Hotshot) went one from one and Billraiser two from one, well done to both of them.
Beaches will be washed out for the next few days but once the surf settles there will be good blackfish and drummer off the rocks.
In the estuaries, there should be some fresh water pushing down that might liven things up more. Bream and flathead fishing should be great now that the holiday traffic is slowing down.
