SEVEN members of the Narooma Flying Dragons dragon boating club travelled to Sydney over the weekend to participate in the Chinese New Year Dragon Boat Races at Darling Harbour in Sydney.
The weather was not kind and the races were held in drizzling and sometimes heavy rain, but that did not dampen the enthusiasm of the Narooma members who joined their Sydney team mates to compete in the two Premier Mixed, Premier Open and Premier Women's teams.
Both the Gold Mixed team and the Open team raced in the finals and although they did not come away with medals they were more than pleased to cross the finish line within a second of the first placed team.
These races were a great introduction for some of the newer members to participate in a top quality competition and also a good opportunity to meet and get together for an after dinner race celebration with 40 of the Sydney paddlers.
The Narooma team members have returned home full of enthusiasm and will be training hard for the upcoming NSW State and the National Championships in Penrith during March and April.
