LINDA Zammit of Linda’s Sweets and Treats in mid-town Narooma is closing her doors for good on Thursday, March 28.
Linda has been in the video and DVD business in Narooma for 16 years now.
Initially Linda opened a video store in Lynch’s Arcade and another one at Narooma Plaza 16 years ago.
About 13 years ago Linda opened Linda’s Sweets and Treats in mid-town before closing the Plaza and arcade stores.
Her store has become an icon in town with families calling in for their weekly fix of lollies and DVDs.
“We have always been a community shop, we have looked after the community and the community has looked after us,” Linda said.
“We have been here for each other and everyone has been great.”
When Linda first decided she was going to retire, she tried to sell the business but there were no takers, so she decided that she was retiring anyway.
Maureen Sweeney has been working with Linda now for 10 years and has nothing but praise for her.
“Linda has always supported the town,” she said.
“The town, schools and a multitude of sporting clubs have benefited from her sponsorship.”
Although Linda was looking to retire and Maureen was looking for another job, an offer for the two women to continue working together has now presented itself.
“We have been offered work with Paul and Maz Stokes when they take over the restaurant at the golf club,” Linda said.
“I want to thank everyone for all their support over the years.”
When Linda vacates her shop, Raine and Horne will move in from next door.
In the meantime, everything is for sale in Linda’s shop and everything must go.
