The helicopter was tasked to the area after a fisherman was reported missing that morning.
The man apparently went fishing on the lake overnight and failed to return.
His absence was reported to police at about 10.45am this morning after the man’s vehicle was located near a boat ramp at the lake.
The boat involved had not yet been located early yesterday afternoon but debris along with the man’s body had been located on the lake.
Westpac Life Saver Helicopter chief executive Stephen Leahy said a crewman was winched down to recover the body.
“He confirmed that there were no signs of life and was unable to be resuscitated,” Mr Leahy said.
The helicopter did an extensive search of the lake and its shoreline but was not able to locate man’s boat, he said.
Mr Leahy said the crew discontinued the search because visibility into the lake was no good due to the recent rain and wind.
