THE Tilba District Chamber of Commerce voted in a new committee at their AGM on Wednesday, September 4. In his acceptance speech, new president Peter Lonergan surprised all the relative newcomers present by saying that he was actually "returning" to the post and was the organisation's founding president in 1992. He thanked outgoing President Sol Ramana-Clarke for his last six-years of service. The meeting returned Phil Elton to vice president, Peita Wall to secretary for a seventh year, elected Jo Kelso to be the new treasurer, Roy Silarski returned as public officer and Sol became publicity officer.
In his President's Report, Sol thanked the Chamber Committee for accomplishing a completion after many years of lobbying, for the new signage on the Highway and Corkhill Drive; for completing Tilba's State Heritage nomination; for being close to completing the long process of fundraising and negotiating with Council for heritage bin surrounds in Central Tilba and for maintaining the Community Service Workers Program that keeps Tilba looking so beautiful. He also thanked the Tilba Festival Committee for yet another successful event that raised some much needed funds for the Tilba Rural Fire Brigade, the above mentioned bin surrounds and the playground.
In the regular meeting that followed it was decided to organise another "Hairy Concert" in the Big Hall some time later in the spring to raise the remaining funds needed for the bin surrounds… so musicians and aspiring musicians of all ages: stay tuned!
