NAROOMA’S Dragon Boat Club started the season on a high with a memorable first regatta at Nowra last weekend. Blue Water Dragons once again combined with their mates from Sapphire Water Dragons from Merimbula but this year fielded a team of 15 Narooma paddlers thanks to the addition of six first time regatta paddlers to the squad.
Narooma’s new paddlers: Sally Farrell, Judy Whiting, Mel Farrow, Donna Anderson, Heather McMillan and Carol Meindl slotted seamlessly into the team and together with the more experienced paddlers from Narooma and Merimbula reached the finals in the Sports Category.
Donna Anderson, who only joined Narooma Blue Water Dragons a matter of weeks ago said, “As a newcomer to Dragon Boating I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into going to a regatta. The weekend was fantastic – the races were lots of fun and my team mates were encouraging and supportive. I think I am hooked!”
Topping off a great weekend was club captain, Gilly Kearney’s successful attainment of her L3 Sweeping Accreditation and the Club’s 3rd Sweep, Ed Proudfoot sweeping two perfect races to be half way to his L3 Accreditation.
Narooma Blue Water Dragons have been on a high all year as their Boat Shed nears completion and Dragon Boating becomes accessible to a greater number of local people who want to get fit and have fun on the best Dragon Boating waterway on the coast.
