Social bowls winners’ circle
IT was Jackpot day on Wednesday with 10 rinks of bowlers enjoying the spring weather while hoping it won't get much hotter than this in the summer. The Jackpot was not won and $160 carries over to next month. Straw draw winners were Col Spears, Ken Wright and Tony Gors (skip) who led early to be up 16 to eight after 11 ends before they let Doc Williams, Smacka Ryan and Bomber Lancaster (skip) back into the game to run out 24 to 20 winners. It was goodbye to Bomber as he heads off to Margaret River for a year or so and Ken, if only the Rabbits had held on! Second prize went to Mike Knight, Pieter Vos, and Chris Goldsmith (skip) who were on the jack all day to lead 12 to four after 11 ends and continued firing for a 20 to 14 win over Garry Evans, Clyde Maslen and Paul Read (skip).
On Saturday there were only about 24 bowlers playing and the straw draw winners were Tony Fryer and Tony Gors (skip) who took time to warm up as they were down five to 12 after 11 ends before they came good to take the match 20 to 16 over Don Williams and Peter McKay (skip). Second prize went to Ron Douglass and Warren Bender (skip) who shot out to a good lead before they were hauled back in in a great match against Michael Knight and Keith Pickett (skip) before they kicked again to take the match 25 to 16.
On Sunday we had 20 bowlers enjoying some social Joe's Special matches. The straw draw winners were Tony Palmer, Carol Phillips and Bev Kellerman (skip) who had a fabulous match with new bowler Diana Morgan, Carol Rogerson and Gerry Simmons (skip). Welcome Diana, we hope you enjoyed the game, see you next week.
Minor singles championship
The semi-finals of the Minor Singles were played on Saturday with Stan Bordiuk being in fine form to extend a 10 to nine lead after 11 ends to a 31 to 17 win over a valiant Ray Gale. In the other match Barry Lymbery played strongly to lead 19 to five after 15 ends against John Downie before John came back with some good ends but Barry remained in control for a 31 to 21 win.
On Sunday morning Stan Bordiuk played Barry Lymbery in the final and what a match it was. Scores were level on 10 occasions with Barry taking one end only to have Stan take the next and a great indication of the closeness of the match was that after 33 ends Stan picked up two shots to take a three shot lead, which was the widest margin of the match. Stan had match shot on the last end only to have Barry kill the end but Stan was not rattled and once again had shot on the next end and Barry was unable to take the Jack with his last bowl with Stan taking the crowd pleasing match 31 to 27, well done to both bowlers. Congratulations Stan on a great championship, you bowled well throughout and you are a worthy winner.

The jackpot of $303 was not won.
Thursday September 26: Winners in very windy conditions were Ken Bennie and Joe Borg from runners-up Lloyd Loftus, Neddy Jones and Peter Pisanos with the resting toucher having a well deserved "rest" (you're all hopeless").

And in reference to last week's report, my humble thanks to Keith Cook for being a good sport.
