NAROOMA’s young skaters and riders are taking ownership of their skate park.
Sam Nugent, Tyron Zammit and Zak Cowley-Hilton are leading by example, cleaning up any litter whenever they arrive, encouraging the other skaters to act responsibly and to treat the neighbours with respect.
They also hope to have a say in the design of the new skate park with $150,000 budgeted by the Eurobodalla Shire Council for the project in the next financial year.
Tyron has been lobbying for expanding skate park facilities for quite some time and has the support of mayor Lindsay Brown.
Clr Brown said it was great to see the young people getting involved and council was fully supportive, even organising another skate comp at the Narooma park over the weekend.
“There are more kids using different equipment and so we need to expand the park to cater for everyone,” he said.
The three young skate leaders say the park is crucial for the town’s youth and on any given afternoon or weekend there were usually at least a dozen skaters, scooter or bike riders ripping it up.
