THERE were two events that took place over the weekend, both of which were played on Saturday. One was the District Shield played at Narooma. Tuross sent five players to compete Ian Wratten, John Fahey, Jim Howden, Barry Sloane and Peter MacDonald. This competition draws some of the strongest teams within the District to compete; therefore it would not be an easy task. The game called for four types of events to be played, singles, pairs, triples and fours. At the end of the day Tuross won two out of the four games. Our fours side went down to Bermagui by six but won triples against Bermagui by 16. John Fahey carried the side to a win over Jason Hossack of Dalmeny in the singles, however we lost the other singles game against Dalmeny. The overall winner on the day was Malua Bay with four out of four wins, with Tuross putting up a good fight.
The other event was the start of the 2013 Mixed Pairs. Six teams who kicked off the competition were Denise Lidbury and Peter Davies playing Irene Martin and Alan Etheridge, Chris and Joe Kosanic played against Fran O’Connell and Werner Kallweitt while Margaret and Stan Peck played Kay and Alan McLeod, with the ladies playing it made the men smarten their game up and it was noticed there were no arguments, the men did exactly as they were told. Therefore we witnessed some classic bowls being put down. At the completion of 21 ends the winners emerged as Peter Davies, the Kosanic’s and the Peck’s.
