About 300 surfers took on the three to four foot swell with the judges watching to see that all stood up for at least five seconds.

The event raised around $10,500 for the Broulee Surf Life Saving Club and the Westpac rescue helicopter.

The result won't be official for about two months, but the girls reported that three waves had potential, so fingers crossed they made it and will be crowned "world record holders" in the near future.  Congratulations to the camera shy Mick Anderson, who participated and also assisted organising the local contingent.

Surf Sistas is a local group of girls, teens and ladies learning to surf in a group that is accredited by Surfing NSW and focused on creating an encouraging environment to learn to surf, or develop the skills to progress.  Participants range from four-years-old to 54-years-old.  Everyone has fun and safety is a focus.  If you have ever thought you'd like to try and learn to surf, why not come along and try it out.  Beginners are able to borrow boards and a wetsuit for their first try, so have a go!

Surf Sistas resume for the 2014/15 year on Sunday, February 2 with registrations at Kianga Beach from 8am.  Rego fees remain at 2013/14 prices of only $25 per person or $50 per family.  Training resumes on Thursday, February 6 at Bar Beach from 4.30pm.  Children under 16 years must have a parent or adult in attendance and parents are encouraged to jump in the water and get involved.  The first comp is at Kianga on Sunday, February 16.  Competitions are held monthly on the third Sunday and the focus is on participation and gaining confidence and skills.
