Public high schools were invited to send up to three competent representatives to the Trials. On the day there were 24 competitors aged under 15 years vying for one of the 12 South East region positions to go to Parramatta on March 3 to 6 to contest the NSW CHS Tennis Championships 2014.
Play for the day consisted of six pools of four players conducting a round robin of six games per match. The winner of each pool would automatically progress to Parramatta.
The second and third placegetters in each pool played off for the six remaining spots to go to Parramatta. The six pool winners also played off to determine the trials champion for the day.
Fourteen-year-old Blake who is coached by Marshal McMahon topped the day by winning all his matches in convincing style.
After winning his pool by scoring 15 out of 18 games, Blake went on to win the quarter final 6-1, the semi-final 6-2 and the final 6-3.
Blake hopes to do well at the state finals in March when NSW Public High Schools send their contestants to the Jefferey Reserve Tennis Courts at Barton Park, North Parramatta for a four day competition.
