Writer, director, producer Kate Halpin is counting on the Narooma district coming out itself to be extras in the production to be filmed this Friday evening.
Kate wants as many people there as possible rain or shine and the address is 11 Sherringham Lane, Central Tilba or contact the property at 4473 7159.
Here are all the details and Kate’s full story – the Narooma News will be there to see how it all goes down – so stay tuned!
My name's Kate Halpin and I am making a short film (15-20 minutes) in Central Tilba this week titled 'A Private Matter'. I require extras for one scene and was hoping you may be able to put a little story in your newspaper in an attempt to help me reach the local community. Please find all relevant information below.
'A Private Matter' is a dark drama about a sensitive, young woman whom is tormented by the fear of ‘coming out’ and travels with her outgoing girlfriend to her rural hometown to spend the weekend with her conservative family in an attempt to live an open and truthful life. However, the ramifications are far worse than they could have ever imagined. This film deals with the socially relevant issue of homophobia and the horrors of human ignorance.
Extras will be needed for the evening of Friday, April 11 (weather permitting) for an outdoor party scene around a bonfire, which will be in a small paddock next to a barn. Hours are likely to be around 6pm-10pm and catering will be provided for everyone involved. The extras will simply be required to 'act' as if they are at a party, drink (fake beer), talk and dance around the bonfire and will be in the background and/or mingle with the lead actors. Essentially it will be just like being at a real party...chatting an mingling with other people! ;) Also, it's a great opportunity to be on a film set and witness first-hand what goes on behind the scenes of a film and experience all that is involved in the film making process. Extras will also have the pleasure of seeing themselves on screen. It will be, at the very least, a fun and exciting evening. Unfortunately, I am on a very restricted budget, so I will not be able to pay extras.
Ideally, the demographic I'm looking for is around 16-40. However, in saying that, any passionate people are welcome. It's a case of the more the merrier! The more people I have the more vibrant the scene will be...which is the aim!!! Please note that any people under 18 years of age will need their parents or guardian to sign a release form (allowing them to be involved in the film). All participants will be credited in the film and will receive a link and DVD to the film once completed. I can also write references for anyone wanting to pursue a career in the film industry.
The film is my 'major project' (or graduating film) for my studies at IFSS (International Film School, Sydney). The shoot period will be one week, whereby the entirety of the film is being shot in various locations inside Central Tilba and Tilba Tilba. I have a crew of 6 people working on the film. My DOP (director of photography / cinematographer) is from Europe with over 8 years experience behind the camera. I am shooting on a Red Camera (which is a professional top of the line camera).
My bio; Having initially trained as an actor, I have a Bachelor of Arts (Acting for Screen and Stage), as well as having trained at Screenwise, The Actors Centre and On Camera Connections, and performed in numerous theatre productions, short films and television commercials.
I then moved to the 'other side of the camera' and have worked both in Sydney and Europe as a freelance production assistant for the past four years as well as previously working at Macgowan Films Production Company and Christine King Casting, and have had the benefit of working alongside some of Australia's best directors, producers and actors.
I am currently studying an Advanced Diploma in Screen and Media at IFSS (International Film School, Sydney), which is a two-year, full-time course specialising in directing, screen writing and producing for film and television.
I continue to work as a freelance Production Assistant on professional films and TV commercials. I recently won the 48 Hour Film Festival (and was the first student and first female ever to do so).
My film is currently screening in the US and competing this month for a place in Cannes Film Festival. Two of my films have screened at public theatres in Sydney. This will be my 5th film. I am planning to enter it into festivals in Australia and in Europe.
