The parade was halted as River Cottage Australia host and star Paul West officially opened the festival using his pocketknife to cut the ribbon on Easter Saturday.
After a relatively chilly early morning, the crowd built quickly as the day warmed and the festival committee must surely be happy with the numbers.
Parking was a challenge on soggy ground but the buses from Symons Narooma Bus Service did a magnificent job shuttling people between Narooma and Tilba Tilba and the Tilba Festival.
The Cobargo Scouts and Cubs did a great job on parking duties the paddocks, a carefully choreographed exercise given the boggy ground, while professional traffic control was also employed.
Greeting the festival goers was new mascot of the Tilba Easter Festival – Hyacinth the Jersey cow – created by committee members Phil Stokes with help of his fellow Narooma Men’s Shed members Harry Hammond and Steve McGourty.
The cow was created with a drum donated by the Two Brothers mechanics and scrap from the Men’s Shed, but it is a work in progress with plans to add a face and other features to her cream coloured jersey paint job.
Complete with a hatch to keep entry tickets and a steel udder, can anyone guess how Hyacinth got her name?
Apparently she has proved popular with locals, with some asking shed members to make more for decoration or even converted to a barbecue!
All the usual activities took place such as the cheese rolling, boot and egg tossing.
The local produce display in the Big Hall at the Tilba Festival on Easter Saturday was a popular new attraction at this year’s festival, featuring stalls of local produce including several regulars from the Saturday Tilba Market.
The music was also excellent thanks to music director Ricky Bloomfield.
The main stage at the Tilba Festival on Easter Saturday was rocking with the ska and jazz Cat Empirish sounds of Tommy M and the Mastersounds, a group of nine uni students from the Illawarra and Southern Highlands area.
Stay tuned for more details from festival organisers as to any numbers and how it all went…
