Designs for expansion of the Narooma skate park that will be built by the end of the year thanks to $130,000 budgeted by Eurobodalla Shire Council.

Present was Tyron Zammit who ran council on skate park expansion platform and who was involved with the construction of the existing park that was built with $60,000 back in 2001.

He said he was keen to see the expansion finally take place and he and the other skaters on Thursday paired up to draw their own designs on large pieces of paper and stick stickers on photos of their favourite potential features.

The skaters wanted most street-style additions with the list of top features including ledges, mini ramps, down rails, bank hips, kickers, manual pads and fun boxes.

Skate park designer Simon Bogalo of the Convic design and engineering firm showed the skaters other designs he and his company had worked on around the country and world.

Council’s project engineer Rob Staples will return in a few weeks with a preliminary plan for the skaters to comment on again before construction would begin.

Youth club manager Angie McMillan requested power be connected to the park to allow for speakers, lights and music at events, while the kids also asked for a drinking fountain.

Construction is also going to begin soon on the Bermagui skate park with the Bega shire also calling for comments on design.
