Jessica Bourke, 28, was diagnosed with breast cancer in October and has had a mastectomy.
She has had her last round of chemotherapy so she hopes her hair can grow back at the same time as her sister Jodie, who came down from Narellan for the head shaving.
Jessica works a child development officer for Eurobodalla Shire Council and her little sister Bonnie Barton was also there on Saturday.
It was the first warm-up event for a big “I will survive” fundraiser for breast cancer research planned for October 18 at Club Narooma.
An organising committee of Jessica’s friends has formed calling themselves and the event “I will survive”.
It will be a family fun day starting in the morning with bands, a silent auction, a jumping castle, face painting and more.
All the funds raised will go toward the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA), both leading community-funded organisation in Australia raising money for research into the prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer.
It was all about awareness for Jessica who said: “Don’t forget to check your boobs!”
The head shave at O’Brien’s Hotel saw a number of blokes jump in to get their heads shave including Bryan Breust who lost his treasured mullet.
All the money raised will go toward organising and funding the “I will survive event” on October 18.
Stay tuned to the Narooma News for progress reports in the lead up to the big event…
