Bermagui Gasshuku Karate

THE Bermagui Japan Karate Association (JKA) Karate Club held its annual Gasshuku on the Queen’s Birthday weekend. Seventh Dan JKA Nishimura Sensei travelled to Bermagui, teaching students of all grades new ways to improve their Karate in several different disciplines.

Kihon (basic movements) and footwork were scrutinised as was the breakdown of muscle movement including expansion and contraction, which relates to all areas of Karate.

Katas, the preformed movements which exercise karate actions and usage, were updated and taught to all levels. New katas were also taught to students throughout the weekend.

All Karate students left the weekend exhausted mentally and physically with plenty to think about and improve on.

We had several young beginners who excelled just in completing the weekends training.

Grading’s were held on Sunday afternoon where all who attempted to grade, showed the benefits of the weekends training.

Callum Meinrath and Sebastian English graded to 10th Kyu.

Kirra McCaughtrie and Rogue Constable double graded to 9th Kyu.

Mathew Everson triple graded to 6th Kyu.

Halle Constable double graded to 6th Kyu,

Ben Halin graded to 6th Kyu.

Mathew Halin graded to 3rd Kyu.

Jack McCaughtrie and Leichelle McCaughtrie double graded to 3rd Kyu.

Danny Halin graded to 2nd Kyu.

Overall the weekend was a great success with our thanks going to all parents who made the efforts in attending for the entire weekend, encouraging the children and their hard work.

Next year the NSW State Titles will be held at the Bermagui Sports Stadium at the same time so all students will be keen to continue and advance their Karate.

Karate lessons are open to all ages and abilities. Training is at the Bermagui Sports Stadium on Mondays and Thursdays starting at 6pm. For further information call Chris McKechnie 0407 518 380.
