The retune is a national programme that moves free-to-air television channels to new frequencies. These moves, to be completed by the end of 2014, will free up space for new services such as mobile broadband.
After the channels changed, viewers will need to retune their digital TV, set-top box or digital TV recorder to find the channels that have moved.
When is it?
In parts of the Far South Coast, all channels will be changing frequencies on July 30.
Who does it affect?
The retune will affect viewers in parts of the Far South Coast. This includes viewers in Batemans Bay, Moruya, Narooma and Dalmeny.
How do I retune?
Retuning is done using the remote. Viewers should start by pressing the ‘menu’ button on their remote then looking for the ‘set-up’ options. Next, they should try to select words like ‘channels’ or ‘auto-tuning’ and follow the prompts. A scanning bar may appear so when the scan finishes, you should be able to receive all the digital TV channels.
A video and 3-step guide to retuning is available on the website.
Retuning should be done after 3:30pm on the Far South Coast’s retune day or any day after the retune.
It may be useful for viewers to write down their favourite channel, program recording and parental lock settings before retuning.
The retune won’t affect viewers watching TV through the Viewer Access Satellite Television (VAST) service. For those watching free-to-air channels via pay TV, the set-top box may be retuned by the provider.
Service outages
There may be some temporary disruptions to all TV services on the retune day. Service outages on the days leading up to and shortly after the retune may also be necessary, due to work being conducted at the transmission site.
TV reception or coverage
The retune simply moves some free-to-air TV channels to a new location on the broadcast spectrum and is unlikely to change TV reception or coverage.
Apartment buildings and hotels
Apartments, hotels or other larger multi dwelling units may use a shared antenna system. If viewers living in these properties find that channels have not reappeared after their retune, they should first contact their property manager or body corporate.
