With the fish averaging around 60kg, do we really need to keep two of these monsters?
I would reckon that one fish per angler would make much more sense and be much more sustainable – but even that is probably too much fish than any one fisherman or fisherwoman could handle.
It is a bit sad that these endangered fish so highly prized and potentially worth thousands and thousands of dollars are brought back un-iced in the bottom of boats, weighed and then perhaps only partially eaten.
Speaking of bag and boat limits, whatever happened to the discussion of lowering the recreational bag limits.
Did the NSW Government simply put it into the too hard basket like they did with the commercial fishery reforms.
It is unfortunate when the political decisions are too hard, nothing gets done and in the meantime the pressure on the fish stocks continue.
