THE Narooma Numnutz winter swimmers decided to swim the Narooma bar in the pouring rain on Sunday.
This was the only second day of swimming in the pouring for the swimmers since the inception of the club six years ago, with both rainy days coming this season.
The swimmers and drinks man Ray Hirst set up under the shelter at Apex Park because of the pouring rain.
There were 17 swimmers and the water was around 16 degrees.
The swimmers then retired to the warm fire and a hearty chicken chilli soup at the Raw Prawn Bistro and O’Brien’s Hotel.
There are only a few more swims with the winter swimming season ending on Father’s Day. All swimmers are welcome and the meeting place is the far end of Bar Beach every Sunday at 9am.
The Narooma Numnutz then head to the Australian winter swimming championships, this year being held in Sydney.
New member for Bermi Blue Balls
FOR the third time this winter ocean swimming season, Sunday morning dawned with grey skies and liquid sunshine. The usual quorum turned up at Blue Pool and we were joined by a new member – the resident cormorant. Who said the weather was suitable only for ducks?
Founder, mentor and inspiration Gary Pearse had decamped to Sydney allegedly for a backyard makeover project but it was rumoured he was seen in the Bledisloe crowd that evening. Undaunted by his lack of presence the Blue Balls basked and frolicked with a brisk swim and then over a strong, hot brew the discussion moved to feedback on last week's Camel Balls.
The consensus was if you see them available for sale anywhere just keep walking. So if you are interested in a refreshing Sunday morning swim and considered culinary discussion afterwards bring yourself, your cossies and your sense of humour to Blue Pool at 9am next Sunday.
