REPORTS of tonnes of bream being taken out of Brou Lake is disturbing to say the least.
Commercial fishermen have a right to fish sustainably but hitting a lake so hard after it was recently opened just does not seem fair.
Bream are a very slow growing fish and it could take a while for this fishery to get back to where it once was.
Also disturbing are attempts to open Coila Lake. Apart from being illegal it is best to let the lake levels reach their maximum before they are opened.
There may have been fish kills in the lake, but this is not a reason to take the law into your own hands.
It was a pleasure to visit Wallaga Lake and catch up with residents and council workers that together are working to make it a better place.
Let’s hope that additional funding can be found to reinstate a community development officer and make the “Wallaga Dreaming” report a reality!
Finally, happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there and make sure to check out the gallery of all the dads on our website, and while you are at it check out the springtime gallery too.
