NAROOMA Lions AFL U16 team had a great week, winning against Merimbula last Saturday to go straight into the grand final and their star midfielder Zak Wilson winning the SCAFL best and fairest award.

Wilson won the award with 20 votes from Merimbula's Dillion Jordan with 16 votes. In the under 13 competition Billy Stubbs from Merimbula with 23 votes won, Narooma's Lachlan Brennan polled 13 votes to come fourth. In the first grade competition Pambula's A Proctor won with 19 votes, Narooma's Jason Sauiliuma polled 10 votes to run fourth.
Narooma in their best team effort for the year beat Merimbula by 46 points. Narooma were far more desperate than their opponents to jump away to a great start. Sam Hodge led a strong Narooma defence with great help from Clifford Taylor and Nick Carter. Fred Hanebery and Jai Reed dominated the rucks, while Liam Clothier, Jeremy Sly and Zak Wilson controlled the midfield. Luke Wiggins marked everything up forward while Ben Kootes pace was worrying Merimbula. The half time score was Narooma 6.2 to Merimbula 1.3.
The Lions with 23 solid performers ran away in the second half to book their spot in the grand final to be played in two weeks’ time. The final scores were Narooma 9.5 to Merimbula 1.7.
The best players in an even team were Wiggins with 6 goals, Hanebery, Clothier, Carter in his best game for the year, Koote Sly, Reed, Sam Hodge and Wilson while the rest of the team all did their bit.
