The Lions defeated the Merimbula team at Merimbula on Saturday, in what was a great game of football that we have come to expect from these two sides.
In perfect conditions the two teams had an even first term with both teams showing grand final nerves and making uncharacteristic mistakes, the score at the break was Narooma 2.4=16 to Merimbula 1.0=6.
The second term saw both teams settle and put on a great display of finals football, half time scores being Narooma 3.5=23 to Merimbula 3.1=19.
In the third term Merimbula's big men started to take control of the game and outscored the Lions by seven points, three quarter time scores were Merimbula 5.4=34 to Narooma 4.7=31.
The Narooma coach made a couple of changes at the break with Zak Wilson going into the forward line and Liam Clothier and Clifford Taylor going onto the ball.
These moves seemed to lift the Lions and they finally got their game going to run out winners with the final score Narooma 8.9=57 to Merimbula 5.5=35.
Coach Mick Clothier praised all 23 players who took part in the game.
“It was a great team effort, Jai Reed won the medal for the best on ground award,” he said.
“The team will lose only five players from this side next year so the club is hoping for back to back grand final wins.
“The future is looking good for the Lions,” Clothier said.
Merimbula had a disappointing day losing all four grades, the results were:
First grade Pambula 18.21=129 to Merimbula 5.2=32.
Development grade Pambula 5.5=35 to Merimbula 3.4 =22
Under 16 Narooma 8.9=57 to Merimbula 5.5=35
Under 13 Pambula 6.5=41 to Merimbula 4.1=25
